If you want to do volunteer work, you can talk with a staff in COSI to determine which organizations will meet your expectations. It is possible to do volunteer work in San José while you are studying or outside of San José after finishing your Spanish program.

ASCOMOTI is an asociation for the conservation of the titi monkey (Mono Tití) and they
protects titi monkeys around Manuel Antonio park.
This programs leads students to become aware of the importance of environmental conservation.

This is a government organization that takes care of abandoned and
abused children. PANI has different shelters throughout the country. Volunteers
help in educational and recreational activities that build the children's
self-esteem.

Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit housing organization
helping in construction of the houses for families with limited resources.
Some work could be done in the office.

Volunteers live with park rangers in ranger stations and assist them with making activities such as providing tourist information, maintaining trails and buildings, information signs, protecting flora and fauna, doing office work or taking surveys.
Volunteers have to pay $15 a day for meals and lodging. There are
also some other possibilities outside San José that can be discussed
further.

ASOMUFACQ is an Association in Manuel Antonio (Quepos) and they organize projects such as
recycling programs, women rights, drug prevention, handycraft workshops, restaurant management and English classes.

They work with deaf and blind children and adults. Volunteers help by
reading or recording books and participating in recreational activities.

It is a small zoo located very close to downtown San José with
exhibits of Costa Rica's exotic animals. They need volunteers to take
care of the zoo animals and to help the personnel in their administrative
duties.

This is a maternity hospital which has a special program for teenage mothers.
This work requires people with medical experience since they will be helping
the nurses.
