Summer Spanish Courses for Teenagers in Costa Rica

From June to August, COSI offers an immersion program specifically designed for teenage students. This program includes chaperone supervision, week activities and weekend tours. The week activities include going to the movies, roller-skating, cooking, dancing and art classes. Weekend trips include going to the beaches, visiting active volcanoes or travel to a rain forest. Teenagers can attend independently or in groups.

Price includes: Tuition, home stay, all meals, airport pick up and drop off, exit visa, activities and tours and hotel accomodations if required

Program Description

Location The program takes place in Heredia, Costa Rica.
Extra money Students will need money to pay for extra food if wanted or to buy handcrafts or presents. They might need around $60 per week for spending money. Credit cards (VISA & MasterCard) can be used for purchases (when it is more than $10) or to withdraw money. Traveler’s check can be cashed either at the school or at a bank.
Arrival info Students can arrive a few days before starting classes. If students arrive on a Saturday, they will spend Sunday with their host family, if a whole weekend excursion takes place that weekend.
Spanish Classes Students will have 3 hours of Spanish classes during the week days. Spanish classes will be in the afternoon from 2:30 to 5:30 PM.
Chaperones There will be chaperones who will pick up students at the airport and accompany them in all the activities. Students are never allowed to go out by themselves for safety reasons.
Transportation Most of the transportation will be provided by a private minibus.
Accommodations During the week, students will stay with host families. On weekend overnight tours, students will stay in hotels and share rooms with students of the same gender and similar age. They will be supervised by chaperones.
Calling parents Students can call the USA collect or they can use AT&T, MCI or Sprint calling cards. Internet can be used at a small fee.
Drinking alcohol or smoking Participating students will NOT be allowed to drink alcohol or smoke at any time. If they consume alcohol, they will be expelled from the program, will not receive any refunds and will cover any extra expenses.
Night curfew Students are NOT allowed to go out by themselves at any time, during the day or night. When students are not with the chaperone, they will stay with their host family. The host family may take their student out in the evenings.
Money exchange It is advised that students bring traveler's checks which can be cashed at COSI. They can also use credit cards to withdraw money.
Health insurance Participants must have health insurance from their country. In case of illness or an emergency, parents will be notified and we will then follow any further instructions.
